Too Much Tide
Published in Untagged by davidstevensWe sailed late on tuesday and shot our nets 35 miles SW of the Lizzard, there's been a strong Spring tide so we went a bit further off trying to get out of the worst of it. The fishing was slack so after searching the area for 24hrs we decided to come closer inshore, shooting 15 miles SW of the Lizzard, and am glad to say the fishing has been a bit better (not a huge volume of fish but whatwe're catching is of higher value).
When the tides are very strong, like they have been the last few days, the fish find it hard to feed on the bottom. We can see this on the Echo Sounder as the marks are a few fathoms higher up in the water than usual, meaning they are too high up for us to catch them in our nets!
The tide is cutting quick from now on so we're hoping the catch will pick up, but the weather has been great, so I can't complain too much after the storms we've had these last couple of months.
