Some you win, some you lose
Published in Untagged by davidstevensWE landed our catch yesterday evening, we had done another 5 day trip and we had very good fishing again. The summer haddocks have started to come on to the grounds, the hauls were a bit hit and miss, at times we were only seeing 200-250kgs a go but we had some big hauls with well over a tonne of haddocks for a four hour tow. We had a nice bit of other fish as well with some good turbuts, brills, monks, dorys and flats making up the rest of the trip.
But unfortunatly the prices for the haddocks were well down this week, only making half of what they usually fetch, this is not unusual for this time of year, as the Scottish vessels also have very good fishing for haddocks out at rockall and with the finer spell of weather just recently there has been plenty of supplies coming in right across the country.
So it was not good news today from Mark at PTA who tried his best to get a good price, it was disapointing as the crew and I have had to work hard this week to bring in a good catch and we were hoping for better prices. But as they say thats fishing and we have had a good run recently but some you win some you lose at least we caught the fish.
