Silly Season
Published in Untagged by davidstevensThe summer is here and we have South-Westerly gales and rain of course! Luckily the worst of the weather has been in the evenings, so we have been able to time our landings with that so we don't lose too much fishing time.
The life boats have been kept busy with broken down down yachts, which is the norm this time of year, but the need to retrieve them in haste is all the more importantas the strong winds could easily turn the situation quite nasty.
We have been fishing to the South of the Scillies by 15 - 25 miles. The fishing has been good with a few nice large Dorys and a good mix of prime (Monk, Reds, Hake, Sole, Lemon and Megs) in the catch along with the old faithful Haddocks to bulk it up a bit. I am glad to say that the unsettled weather does have its advantages as the prices are holding up with the limited supplies coming ashore.
We are on the last week before our annual 3 weekly lay up, in MacDuff, and we only have 2 more landings to go if all goes well to go up there. The boat needs a good re-fit now and it will be nice to get all those niggly jobs done that need doing.
