Crystal Sea Trawling Blog
Ready to go at any time
Published in Untagged by davidstevensI went on the internet monday evening to see what the weather was doing and it was looking poor for the next day, then I woke up early on tuesday morning and it seemed quiet, so I went on the net again and the weather was not coming as first forecast. So I called the crew and we set sail early tuesday morning, I have to say the swell was huge as we got out to open sea and we were glad to get thenets in the water as soon as possible. It went away fine after the first haul, the wind eased and the swell had dropped a little, the fishing wasn't to bad as well considering(12 boxes of mixed fish) for a 4hour tow.
We carried on fishing through to the next morning, but as the day broke the weather was making again quite quickly and the swell was starting to increase, we worked up til just after dinner time then headed off in with a following south west gale, helping to drive us home. We had 5hauls in total and we landed 70boxes of mixed fish so well worth the effort, it's looking a fairly similar situation tomorrow so we are ready and rareing to go again.
This time of year you have to be raedy to go at any time if you hesitate it's easy to miss a day and a couple of days like this in a week, you can knock up a wage for the week.
