Inflation worries

Published in Untagged  by davidstevens

We sailed again early monday morning, as we left Newlyn there was such a strong north west wind blowing down the coombe that we had a job to get out of the gaps, I had to put the throttle down to scrape clear of the south pier. So we new were in for a rough ride, sure enough as we got clear of Gwennip head and opened up the sea it was blowing a north west gale.

As we were shooting the netsJanis got the toggle of his lifejacket stuck in a mesh, it inflated straight away and he looked like the micheling man, he couldn't gee nor woe so after we had stopped laughing we managed to release him from his predicament, but it was good to see that the jackets work so well, although it was quite a shock.

The fishing was up and down this trip, at first it was the weather that had cut the fishing, as the sea was very milky looking after being stirred up by the constant stormy weather, but the fishing did pick up and we put down some good hauls as the trip went on. But the dawning haul each day was very slack for some reason, this is unusual as it is normaly the best haul of the day? We were catching haddocks smooth hounds, red gurnard, whitten, pouts, pollacks, ling and some mixed flat, we headed off back in this afternoon with a south east gale behind us all the way home, then we had a job to get in the harbour! as south east is not a good direction for Newlyn. Quite a rough trip all in all but worth it in the end as we managed russle up 200 boxes for the 3days in the end, it will be at Pta for fridays market.
