Dorys have arrived

Published in Untagged  by davidstevens

We landed our catch last thursday evening for the fridays market, then we sailed again and headed south west to the grounds to the south of the scillies by 20-30 miles. The first day we had a good days fishing with 3-4 baskets of flat a go, a nice bit of white fish and a couple of baskets of dorys. This was great as when we start catching the dorys we know that the winter is well and truelyover. The Dorys were a really good size and they were really fat and healthy looking, so where ever they have been for the winter they have had a good time, we fished for four days and we headed back to Newlyn yesterday evening with a good trip onboard followed by a southerly gale for the easter market.

We spent the day today cleaning up the boat and doing the net work that needed doing. They are giving a gale again tomorrow, but the weekend is looking fine so we are hoping to sail again early friday morning, so lets hope the dorys are still thick on the ground.

We will also be joined next trip by some friends (Peter and Bryan Johnston) of ours from Scotland who have had to bring their boat(the Tranquility) down from up north because of the stupid days at sea scheme, so they will be fishing alongside us for a few weeks so the boat and crew can get a wage as the restrictions in the north sea have made it impossible to earn a yearly living up there.
