Crazy rules
Published in Untagged by davidstevensWe got back in to Newlyn in the early hours of this morning, we were forced in due to the poor weather. We have been away for a couple of days and the fishing was good, we started our trip out to the southard then we worked our way west as the trip went on. We have been seeing a good mix of fish catching mainly Haddocks, whitting, lemons, sole, Brills, lings, pollick, plaice and gurnards, we landed 120 boxes for our trip. We landed our catch this afternoon and Steve from inasfellon landed us so it didn't take long, as he doesn't hang around. It's looking poor for monday as well, but thats ok as we have plenty to do, we parted a lower bridle on one of our nets this trip so we have re-spliced that and we are going to work on our nets tomorrow because we haven't had chance to go through them for nearly a month, so its well over due.
We had a Scotsman down today called peter, he works a sistership of ours called the tranquillity out of Fraserbrough, he is thinking of coming down this way later in the year to fish for prawns to westward. They are having to come this way because the EU have cut the north sea days by 20% this year, totally un-necessary as they have no impact on the cod stocks at all, so we are seeing a shift in effort this way as 160days at sea which they are now allowed, is not enough to earn a living.
We are hoping to sail on tuesday, there is another big tide coming up this week so we will have to work a bit further off to get out of the worst of it, so lets hope we have another fine spell to make it a bit easier.
