Changing the Warps

Published in Untagged  by davidstevens

We were forced in on Monday due to the strong easterly gale that day, along with the Tranquility we landed our catch Monday afternoon for Tuesdays market. We'd not had too bad a trip, with a nice few Haddocks and Flat, considering the weather was unsettled most of the time we were away, we can't really complain!

The weather was poor on Tuesday as well so we took the opportunity tochange our warps as they were 10 months old and had reached the end of their life. We had a busy day taking the old warps off, but to make matters worse there was about 100 fathoms of warp on the bottom of the drum that must have been 10-15yrs old that had compacted on tight and was very rusty so we had quite a job cutting it all off. As you can imagine by the end of the day we were absolutely covered in dust - the only part that wasn't was where our face masks had been!

After a long day we managed to get the new warps on, got home for something to eat (and a much needed shower) and sailed again early hours of this morning.
