Raining Hounds And Dogs
Published in Untagged by davidstevens |What a trip this week turned out to be, we started the trip last tuesday and to start with we found the fishing up and down but generally slack. Then on saturday we had the first cut in the tide and the fishing went mental, I have never seen so much fish on the grouds, when we hauled our net on saturday afternoon the bag was full that we had a job to heave it aboard via our bag hatch
Over Supply
Published in Untagged by davidstevens |We landed our catch on Tuesdays market, Alec had a good haul of fish (350 boxes of mixed fish) but unfortunately the prices were very poor.
This time of year we are usually in and out with the weather, although I am grateful for the fine spell, it is rare to have it so fine for 3wks in February. This is not so good for the marketing of fish as it is the time of year when there is

One Of Those Trips
Published in Untagged by davidstevens |We landed last night it is now my trip off, Alec and the crew sailed again straight after we had landed. Last trip was a tough trip, as many niggley things went wrong. The engine had dropped
Too Much Tide
Published in Untagged by davidstevens |We sailed late on tuesday and shot our nets 35 miles SW of the Lizzard, there's been a strong Spring tide so we went a bit further off trying to get out of the worst of it. The fishing was slack so after searching the area for 24hrs we decided to come closer inshore, shooting 15 miles SW of the Lizzard, and am glad to say the fishing has been a bit better (not a huge volume of fish but what

Inflation worries
Published in Untagged by davidstevens |We sailed again early monday morning, as we left Newlyn there was such a strong north west wind blowing down the coombe that we had a job to get out of the gaps, I had to put the throttle down to scrape clear of the south pier. So we new were in for a rough ride, sure enough as we got clear of Gwennip head and opened up the sea it was blowing a north west gale.
As we were shooting the nets
Another Quick Flip
Published in Untagged by davidstevens |I have just got home after another short trip, we are landing tomorrow morning for PTA on monday morning. The fishing was good again we have 90boxes for 5hauls 24hrs. We were catching quite a few pollack's and lings this time, the south west gales must have stirred up the ground and now they are on the move across the ground, shifted off the wrecks.
It was a poor trip with a huge
