Putting The Time In
Published in Untagged by davidstevens |The weather has settled down nicely just recently and we have been able to put in regular trips for the first time this year. We have been landing every 5 days so that the fish is in good condition and fortunately the fishing has also been good.
However its not all been plain sailing as we have had quite a few niggly jobs to do, this week the fax machine on board, which I use to communicate
Good Trip, Bad Trip
Published in Untagged by davidstevens |We started off fishing to the south of the Lizzard on Good Friday, but the fishing wasn't very good, so we headed west and have been fishing south by west of the Scillies by 20 - 30 miles for the last couple of days. The fishing has been average with some nice Haddocks, flats and a few Dorys, but its slacking off a bit now and I'll have to move grounds tonight.
We also have a small
Dorys have arrived
Published in Untagged by davidstevens |We landed our catch last thursday evening for the fridays market, then we sailed again and headed south west to the grounds to the south of the scillies by 20-30 miles. The first day we had a good days fishing with 3-4 baskets of flat a go, a nice bit of white fish and a couple of baskets of dorys. This was great as when we start catching the dorys we know that the winter is well and truely
Cuttles Still Hanging On
Published in Untagged by davidstevens |We are away to the south of the Lizzard this week by 20-30miles and are still seeing quite a few Cuttles, which is unusual so late in the year. They are normally heading back to the estuarys by now to breed, but this year they seem to be taking their time in doing so. We are also seeing quite a few more Whiting around this year, as well as the Haddocks, so thats a good sign, and the Lemon
Black back Down
Published in Untagged by davidstevens |The Fish was sold today at PTA, the prices are starting to pick up a bit now, which is a relief as it proves that demand is picking up a bit as the year goes on. We have been in today, we had an oil change to do and we have put our new trawl doors back aboard after they have been in for a week for some welding work on the shoes to be done, we also took ice and grub and we are ready to
Spring Has Come At Last
Published in Untagged by davidstevens |We are working to the south of the Scillies by about 15-25 miles and the fishing has been good. We are seeing the spring fish come on quickly this week and had our first basket of Dorys for the year today. The Lemons and Megs fishing has been good as well and the Hakes are starting to show, so the spring fishing is here!
The weather has been fresh at times but it hasn't held us up
Humps and Bumps
Published in Untagged by davidstevens |We sailed on Tuesday afternoon, after landing our fish to PTA. We headed west again to work in an area aptly named 'humps and bumps' because this is what the gear does when we tow here, due to the small sand banks and patches of rough in the area. We had a good trip from here with a nice bit of prime on the ground and I am glad to say that we got around without any damage - thankfully!
I not that supersticious But?
Published in Untagged by davidstevens |The boat is still away to the south west, but they have come a bit closer as the trip has gone on. The fishing hasn't been to bad but we have had a few things go wrong, first we had a valve bust on one of our fuel tanks and it has jammed shut, so we are unable to use the tank, so we are down to three tanks and that only gives us enough fuel for 5days fishing. Then yeterday on that day
Spring is in the air

Published in Untagged by davidstevens |We got back in to Newlyn in the early hours of this morning, we were forced in due to the poor weather. We have been away for a couple of days and the fishing was good, we started our trip out to the southard then we worked our way west as the trip went on. We have been seeing a good mix of fish catching mainly Haddocks, whitting, lemons, sole, Brills, lings, pollick, plaice and gurnards
