Poaching? Not Guilty

Published in Untagged  by davidstevens |

We have been working to the south of the scillies in the last week, the fishing has been up and down, with 2-3days of good fishing, then 2-3days of slacker fishing.

It was all becoming a bit dull, until early one morning we hauled and had a huge suprise in our nets, we had a lovely salmon which weighed about 3kg. I have never caught a salmon whilst at sea before in the time that I have been

Long Days and Slack Fishing

Published in Untagged  by davidstevens |

June is here and the fishing is slack. This usually happens in the month of June for a couple of weeks, then the summer fishing starts and all is ok again

This year is more difficult as the price of small Haddocks is way down so we are trying to avoid catching them and chase more valuable fish like flats, Monk and Dory. We could go to the grounds where we know there will be plenty of

Changing of the Guard

Published in Untagged  by davidstevens |

Alec has had the boat away this week, the fishing has been fairly steady but they have had to move around a fair bit this trip as the fishing has been quite flighty. This can happen sometimes as the tide this week has cut very quickly which can make the fish move over the ground quick, but I'm glad to say the last 24 hrs has been better with some good hauls of haddocks and mixed prime.

Some you win, some you lose

Published in Untagged  by davidstevens |

WE landed our catch yesterday evening, we had done another 5 day trip and we had very good fishing again. The summer haddocks have started to come on to the grounds, the hauls were a bit hit and miss,  at times we were only seeing 200-250kgs a go but we had some big hauls with well over a tonne of haddocks for a four hour tow. We had a nice bit of other fish as well with some

Quick turn-around to catch the last market

Published in Untagged  by davidstevens |

We started our trip on Monday morning, it was quite a poor day and we had to steam to the west (into the weather) which didn't help. Even though it was poor we didn't fish too badly, we had a nice few Haddocks, some flats and some nice Dorys. Tuesday wasn't much better, it was still SW 6-7 but we managed to push on through.

Wednesday the weather fined away and we had a good couple

Not such a Fair May

Published in Untagged  by davidstevens |

We are back in the harbour today after being forced in yet again due to the weather. We got two days fishing in from wednesday to thursday, but in the early hours of friday morning it blew a gale from the west, with the swell making very quickly the fishing took off  so we had to end our trip early and come in. The forecast when we sailed was sounding good for the weekend, but unfortunatly

Changing the Warps

Published in Untagged  by davidstevens |

We were forced in on Monday due to the strong easterly gale that day, along with the Tranquility we landed our catch Monday afternoon for Tuesdays market. We'd not had too bad a trip, with a nice few Haddocks and Flat, considering the weather was unsettled most of the time we were away, we can't really complain!

The weather was poor on Tuesday as well so we took the opportunity to

Treasure Hunt

Published in Untagged  by davidstevens |

We sailed yesterday and headed back to the south of the Scillies by 25 miles, the fishing is average with a good run of Haddocks but not a huge amount of anything else just a bit of flat and Dorys. There has been a huge swell running today, due to the storm that went up past the west of Scotland, but the wind has only been a 5 - 6 at most.

Alongside us, these past couple of weeks, has been

Back in the loop

Published in Untagged  by davidstevens |

We landed our catch to pta on thursday night, after 3days fishing. The fishing was good again, we have been working southwest of the lizzard point by 25-35miles, we have been seeing quite a few haddocks, which have all been a good size and a nice few dorys. We had the navy onboard again last trip for a routine inspection again, but all was well.

We had to stop in on Friday as we had
