Southeast Gale Knocked The Fishing
Published in Untagged by davidstevens |We Sailed again in the early hours of wednesday morning and shot where we had left off the trip before. The fishing had slacked off to what is was the day before, so we had a search around, but we never found the fishing any better elsewhere.
Quite often we find that after a very strong blow the fishing can go slack, as the sea goes milky with all the stirring up, so we can
Not The Week For Mending Nets
Published in Untagged by davidstevens |We sailed again early thursday morning and headed off to where we left off the day before. The fishing was still good with a nice mix of fish with a few monks, megs, hake, lemons and cuttle, we were not catching a huge volume of fish, but it was quality, high value fish so it was a decent living.
So all was going well until on janis watch we slowed up a bit, but as it was poor weather and
Steaming into the blizzard
Published in Untagged by davidstevens |We got another 36hrs fishing in, the fishing was good once again, with a nice bit of prime but not a huge amount of whitefish, but the quality fish is making good money at the moment.
We started steaming back to Newlyn late last night, the wind was on the bow on the way in, as it was blowing quite hard from the north. We were seeing mainly rain all the way in, but as we approached mounts
Early Start To The New Year
Published in Untagged by davidstevens |We headed down to the boat late on new years eve, then we sailed and headed off some 30miles to the south of Newlyn. The weather had moderated from the day before when we shot and we had a lovely peaceful start to the new year and the fishing was pretty good as well.
The Penlee lifeboat and her crew had an early start as well, as the beam trawler Travessa
Early End To The Year
Published in Untagged by davidstevens |We were out fishing on thursday and we were planning to carry on until monday as the weather was fine and although the fishing was slack the prices had been good up until then. Then we got a fax from PTA calling us in early to land on Fridays market as the prices were starting to fall away quickly.
So on thursday afternoon we steamed in and landed what we had for the 3days
Short Trip Great Prices
Published in Untagged by davidstevens |We sailed early monday morning and headed south by 30miles, the fishing wasn't to bad with a good run of megs and monk but not a lot of bulk to go with it. The weather was still poor when we shot, with the wind still coming from the north, but it soon eased and we had a lovelly fine night for a change on monday evening.
The next day we headed west and we found the fishing better
Unpredictable Low
Published in Untagged by davidstevens |We sailed yesterday morning and shot after a couple of hours steaming, the forecast was giving the wind cyclonic then going northerly 10, which is off the land so we thought we would be alright for the night.
Unfortunatly for us the low moved further north and west than predicted and we had an increasing ssw wind. The wind wasn't flying to the north as predicted so when the wind reached
Will It Ever Stop Blowing!
Published in Untagged by davidstevens |We are hoping to sail tomorrow morning after yet another gale 9 from the southwest comes through tonight. We have been in since a week thursday ago, so we will be glad to get back out to sea and try to find some fish.
The prices are apparently through the roof, with soles making £21 a kg, and monks making £18 a kg, so we will have to hopefully get some fish and try to catch a
Visit From The Beeb
Published in Untagged by davidstevens |Al and the crew got in on thursday morning and we landed the catch that they had for the couple of days, that they managed to snatch.
Whilst we were landed a film crew were down from the BBC, they had been in the area filming the history of fishing and familys at sea and they had got in touch with my Dad and asked if he could help.
The programme goes quite in depth into how diferent
Things That Go Bump In The Night
Published in Untagged by davidstevens |With another 24hour gap in the weather,We sailed agiain monday evening and steamed off a little further this time, to see if we could find a bit better fishing. We have so far got another 5hauls hauls in but its quite poor now and I think we will be blown in again later as they are giving severe gales for the rest of the week and through the weekend.
The fishing hasn't been to bad with
